Weight Doctors® 3D Bodyscan: making progress visible with the digital avatar

A companion on the long journey

Whether through a sustainable change in diet, targeted training or obesity surgery: big goals can be reached in different ways. All forms of body optimisation under your own steam have one thing in common, however – the road to the goal is long.

In 2023, the Weight Doctors® Group therefore introduced the Weight Doctors® 3D Bodyscan, a holistic digital system for body analysis. At the locations in Germany and the Netherlands, it can be used to measure, document and follow over time not only weight loss but also body composition.

This can provide additional motivation, because even small successes become visible. And it helps to pinpoint your own priority goals and to keep improving your training.

The measuring method

In a short, contactless measuring process, the 3D Bodyscan creates an accurate virtual copy of the body. For this, you stand for about 30 seconds on a special platform that turns once through 360 degrees. High-precision cameras record your body while LIDAR sensors from Silicon Valley measure it at 14 measuring points.

The measurement is fully automatic, contactless and harmless to health. The result is a virtual 3D avatar that reproduces the whole body to the millimetre – and, unlike many cameras and mirrors, without distortion.

With the 3D Bodyscan, you can first view your true-to-life avatar from all angles.

A question of posture

The 3D image is not everything, however. Using the avatar, the Weight Doctors® 3D Bodyscan also analyses body posture, which plays a large, often underestimated role in appearance and health.

Even the balance of the body becomes visible, because the load on the feet is recorded during the measurement. Postural weaknesses or problems stand out clearly – this opens the way to more targeted training or a suitable therapy. That is why the system is also used in physiotherapy.

Reaching the goal with clear insight

A body analysis with the Weight Doctors® 3D Bodyscan is a milestone on the way to your personal best form, because it shows and evaluates the current state very precisely. Repeated measurements are even more revealing: the standardised method ensures that avatars and measured values are always comparable – no matter where and by whom the measurement was taken. In this way, even small changes in the body can be documented, and motivation for the next steps grows.

Where the 3D Bodyscan was available

At the start in 2023, the 3D Bodyscan was available at six locations: Dortmund, Düsseldorf, Hamburg, Hanover, Nuremberg and Waalre near Eindhoven. More locations were due to follow in the course of the year.

In the introductory phase, two scans about 6–9 months apart were included at no additional cost in the Weight Doctors BARIATRICS®, Weight Doctors SLEEVE® and Weight Doctors® GASTRIC BALLOON programmes; individual scans were possible for a fee.
